About Woven Therapy

Your guide to a peaceful inner world.

Light gray abstract shape resembling a flower or sun with radiating petal-like forms on a white background.

We help adults safely connect with themselves and the world around them.

Each therapist here at Woven practices with their unique sound and style. We are trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic and Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness practices. We have found that a range of modalities best serves a whole person- thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Why Woven?

Woven is a metaphor for the deep interconnectedness of everything.

Like threads in a tapestry, our inner world—thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviors—intertwines with the outer threads of relationships, community, and place. Each strand shapes the fabric of our lives, creating a unique pattern that reflects both our personal and collective journeys.

Madeline Chapla, LCSWA

She/Her | Licensed Therapist

I join the Woven team from Charlottesville, VA and bring a steadfast commitment to mental health and fostering human connection. I hold an undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. My education and professional background working with individuals affected by sexual assault, domestic violence, and child maltreatment have equipped me with a deep respect for peoples’ unique life experiences. I strive to help folks develop effective coping skills and build resilience.

Drawing from extensive experience in victim support and crisis intervention, I create a therapeutic space where clients can openly explore their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. I specialize in working with adults navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, and life adjustments.

If you are looking for a therapist with a compassionate approach and commitment to fostering well-being, I invite you to connect with me.

Madeline currently serves clients virtually throughout Virginia and in person in Charlottesville, Virginia. She is accepting new clients.

Katie Zale, LCSW

She/Her | Owner & Licensed Therapist

I graduated from North Carolina State University ( Go Wolfpack) with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a Public and Interpersonal Concentration and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I went on to complete my Master’s Degree in Social Work from The University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Throughout my career as a clinical social worker, I’ve had the opportunity to support individuals across a range of settings, with experience in domestic violence, grief, disordered eating, and substance use. Over nearly a decade of practice, I’ve found a deep passion for working with young adults as they navigate identity, life transitions, relationships, and overall well-being. I’m especially drawn to exploring themes of rigidity and overcontrol, helping clients move toward greater flexibility, self-compassion, and emotional freedom.

Katie currently serves clients in North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

A note from the Founder

Hi, I’m Katie and I’ve always revered the entirety of the human experience

I was raised to believe that people matter; their pain, the mundane, the moments of celebration and their dreams all deserve a space to be seen.

Throughout life, we all develop solutions, rules, and beliefs in an attempt to support ourselves. But over time, these patterns often stop serving us. I am no exception. As a deep feeler, I often struggled with feeling different or like I didn’t belong. In response, my internal world became harsh, critical, and perfectionistic—full of rigid rules that ultimately led to a misaligned life, unhealthy relationships, and painful emotional experiences.

Through therapy, I have found approaches to awaken and align with my authentic self to a create a life beyond what I could have imagined.

Credentials & Experience

I’ve dedicated my career to helping people navigate life. My journey started at NC State, where I double-majored in Psychology and Communication with a minor in Spanish, graduating Magna Cum Laude. From there, I earned my Master’s in Social Work from UNC Wilmington, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Since then, I’ve pursued extensive training in evidence-based therapies like DBT, ACT, and CBT, and along the way, I became certified in Brainspotting and completed a yoga teacher training. In 2020, I was honored to receive the Soldier Suicide Prevention Scholarship from the Beck Institute, recognizing my commitment to supporting individuals struggling with mental health. I am a registered Supervisor in Virginia for clinical social workers and have provided clinical supervision in North Carolina to individuals seeking their full license.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, as well as individuals navigating substance use and mental illness. I was a founding clinician at Be Herd Counseling, where I worked with a full age range of clients and supported military families through equine-assisted therapy. I also spent time in higher levels of care, working with adults experiencing disordered eating in residential and partial hospitalization settings.

Most recently, I founded Woven Therapy, a practice that reflects my passion for helping people reconnect with themselves and build lives that feel meaningful and aligned.

  • Madeline and I met nearly nine years ago as colleagues. We’re stoked to be working together again.

  • I’m a big reader. Like the other girlies, I’ve been loving all things Sarah J. Maas and fantasy escapism! Let me know your suggestions. And for those of you who are curious, I’m a Hufflepuff turned Gryffindor.

  • Yoga is my go to for quieting my mind and connecting with my body. I love going to the studio. Recently I’ve been more into restorative and yin classes.

  • I feel a deep connection to our mother Earth and all her critters. From sitting on the porch to camping in the woods- I’m in.
